WS1 vs. WS4: SpringWell well water filter is available in 2 variants; WS1 & WS4. The only difference between the two models is the flow rate. WS4 is 3 inches wider than WS1, allowing it to generate more flow rate. WS4 is costly compared to WS1.

There is no difference in filtration capabilities or operating conditions between WS1 and WS4. We suggest you buy WS4 only if you have 4+ washrooms in your home.

Performance Features

Filtration Capabilities – How the System Works

The unit can remove up to 7 PPM iron, 8 PPM hydrogen sulfide, and 1 PPM manganese. The unit comes with a sediment filter to remove suspended particles before the water enters the filter.

The filtration process is 4-step process based on an air injection oxidization system.

Step 1: Water enters (after passing through included sediment filter) the unit and flows through a pocket of air at the top of the tank. The air oxidizes contaminants in the water.

Step 2: The oxidized contaminants are trapped in the bed of green sand fusion.

Step 3: The contaminants are backwashed, and the air pocket is refreshed for further filtration. Its Empress Vortech Tank ensures quick and thorough cleaning of the filtration media.

Step 4: Treated water flows out of the system to other filters or your home.

Flow Rate

SpringWell knows that slow water is irritating. What’s the point of digging and maintaining a private well on your property if you have to experience pressure drops? SpringWell has solved this problem by providing faster flow rates.

It is enabled by 1-inch connections that don’t stop water’s natural flow rate. SpringWell offers two variants based on flow rate. You can install WS1 (12 GPM) for homes with 1-4 bathrooms and WS4 (20 GPM) for larger homes with 4+ bathrooms.

The filter delivers water promptly to your home. It doesn’t hold up water like other filtration systems. You don’t have to wait to fill a glass of water or buckets to bathe.

Control Head

The system is operated via a Bluetooth-enabled control head. It gives you control over your system and lets you adjust settings like air draw, backwash cycles, timings, valve settings, current water usage, and view historical data.

You will find many systems with Bluetooth control heads, but they aren’t as versatile as SpringWell. SpringWell offers complete control, allowing you to save water and increase the filter’s life.

Slow Air Release

The unit features a slow-release mechanism for compressed air before the backwash cycle begins. It eliminates the loud bangs you hear in ordinary systems. Many complain that their whole house filters or softeners are too loud during backwash cycles. If you are one of them or you’ve heard your neighbors’ system going crazy, SpringWell is what you need.

Available Upgrades

Most private wells have hard water and a wide range of contaminants. You’ll probably need more than one filter to make well water fit for consumption and everyday use. You can pair this unit with SpringWell’s softener, RO drinking water, and UV purification systems.

Customer Feedback

Buyers are happy and satisfied with the system’s performance. Most people conducted water tests after installing the unit and were amazed by the results. The filtered water had zero iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulfide in water. Users also highlight that iron-free water improved the efficiency of their softener and drinking water filters.

Buyers are happy that it removes sulfur (rotten egg) smell from well water and makes it pleasant to use.

A few buyers mentioned that water quality dropped after a few months of installation. The tech support suggested increasing backwash time and frequency. The backwash time and frequency depend on water quality and must be adjusted depending on contaminant concentration in the water.

Many users revealed that they were reluctant to buy a costly unit, but the system showed its worth right after installation. The water quality improved instantly, and iron stains and sulfur smell were gone for good.

Final Words: Should you Buy SpringWell Whole House Well Water Filter?

It depends on water quality, usage, and budget. SpringWell WS1 or WS4 is a must-have for private wells with iron, manganese, and sulfur. Undoubtedly, it is a costly system, but it is also highly efficient, maintenance-free, and lasts 15-20 years. Homeowners with more than 7 PPM iron in the water supply must not install this unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need anything else to install the unit?

Everything other than fitting and connections is included in the system. You might not need them if a filter with the same size fitting and connections was installed.

Do I need to install a Water Softener or Drinking Water Filter along SpringWell Well Water Filter?

Yes. This filter only removes iron, manganese, and sulfur from water. It can remove hardness (calcium & magnesium) up to some extent, but you cannot rely on it to make water soft. Moreover, the unit will not remove bacteria, VOCs, and odors (other than sulfur) from water. Hence, you need a drinking water filter with it too. Under-sink filters are great for purifying drinking water.

Can I install SpringWell WS filters outside?

Yes. You can install these filters outside, but it is better not to. Weathering elements like extreme heat, snow, and rain can damage the filter.
